The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby and other religious groups, are fundamentally opposed to any law which actively supports or permits assisted suicide in any way.
This in fact reflects religious dogma which is centuries old. It totally ignores modern thinking and modern alternatives like going to Switzerland and being able to end one's life calmly and with dignity, when one is ready.
This possibility is available to people who have the money and the means, to organise and make this last one way trip abroad ! Should less fortunate people, also wanting to escape more pain and misery, be denied this simple Human Right only because they are too poor ?
The duty of elected Politicians, is to provide the Legal Framework with all the necessary guarantees, to ensure that the decision to legally end the life of anyone, is justified. Doctors and Lawyers know how to prepare such a file to enable a Judge to accept such a request.
This also implies that a few specialised "Clinics" are created in Britain (perhaps in other countries too) to cover such cases. Swiss clinics could perhaps serve as Role Models. This is not just another service that National Health Hospitals should be expected to provide.
